Puerto Princesa International Airport (PPS) is the main gateway to ‘Philippines’ Last Frontier’ and the westernmost province in the Philippines – PALAWAN.

Puerto Princesa is home to the famous UNESCO World Heritage and one of the Seven Wonders of Nature – Puerto Princesa Underground River which is definitely a must visit in Palawan. Visitors come here for its enchanting cave, forest and mountain trails, and scenic views. Puerto Princesa is also a gateway to other breathtaking sites like El Nido and Coron which makes the influx of tourist unstoppable.

The Old Puerto Princesa Airport started its operation in 1978 with only 800 seating capacity. The original airport which is 3000 sqm. cannot accommodate the amount of tourist visiting the city, thus the launching of the new airport with a much bigger and modern complex. Located at Brgy. San Miguel, Puerto Princesa International Airport opened last May 2017 and is worth ₱4.5 billion with a floor area of 13,000 sqm with a seating capacity of 1,500, six parking bays and parking slots for more than 200 cars.

Some of the airlines that operate here includes Philippine Airlines (PAL), Cebu Pacific, AirAsia, and Air Juan. PAL even operates a direct international flight to Taipei-Taoyuan from Palawan.

According to the DOTr, the new terminal is equipped with a state-of-the-art air navigation system that enhances the airport’s safety operations which complies with international standards with a 1800 KVA standby generator set. With the new airport being able to handle flights internationally, it now makes Puerto Princesa attractive to foreign tourists.

The airport has ample air-conditioned lounges including smoking rooms, food and drinks outlets, free high-speed Wi-Fi and souvenirs shops. The facilities of the terminal is heavily inspired by Incheon Airport in South Korea which is hailed as one of the best airports in the world and with that PPS newest airport is now becoming one of the most liked airports in the Philippines.

Mode of Transporation to the City

Tricycles, Jeepneys, Taxis (from standard to luxurious), Minivans, Buses and Car Rental Agencies are within reach in the Arrivals area.

Taxi rates from Puerto Princesa Airport to the city starts at PHP 40 (Flag Down Rate). Tricycles are also a cheaper alternative which fare ranges from P40 to P50 only. The distance of the airport to the main town is just 10 to 15 minutes away which makes commuting very affordable.

Airport Departure Hall

I love the structural design of the ceiling, modern classy ambiance, spacious rows of chairs with big leg rooms, and cleanliness of the venue.

The lighting design is inspired from Palm Trees which are common in Palawan.

This development marks another milestone in the transport industry of the Philippines. I’m sure this new facility will boost trade and tourism in the country.
